why am I starting This?
Hi, I am Liam 👋
I recently turned 40 and for the past few years have found myself struggling to find a space where I feel like I belong. As I've gotten older a lot of my straight friends have had kids and I rarely see them anymore and a lot of my gay friends have moved away. I have always loved a good party and would get a lot of my connection and play from a night on a dance floor having fun and meeting new people. And while I still love doing that every now and again, it's not something I want to be doing on a regular basis. Apart from the fact that I don't enjoy it as much as I used to, I find it in conflict with my goals and values of wanting to be healthy and form deeper connections and I just don't want to feel like rubbish for the next week. Outside of the clubs I feel that most of the queer venues cater to younger people and there are not a lot of places people aged 35+ like me enjoy going to meet new people, make friends and have fun. This problem has been compounded by the rise of apps, social media and Covid. My personal experience with apps and social media has often left me feeling disconnected and empty with a whole lot of wasted time to show for it. I want to stay connected and socially engaged as I get older, I don't want to feel left behind and I crave deeper friendships and meaningful interactions and I believe others do too. That's why I'm creating this community — to provide a safe, supportive and healthy space for us to connect, have fun, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.
Frequently Asked Questions
A. Unlike bars, clubs and apps which can feel intimidating and unwelcoming; Kiki Clubhouse is a community. It incorporates both in-person events and a private online space – both facilitated by hosts to help you feel welcome and connect with other members. It has been designed specifically to cater to the preferences and lifestyles of older LGBTQI+ people to provide a place to socialise, connect and have fun without the need for substances.
A. Yes KiKi is open to all ages, however it has been created to cater to older (35/40+) people who are transitioning out of the club and party scene (or who were never in that scene) and who are looking for a place to connect, socialise and make new friends without the comedown. We appreciate that younger people may also prefer this type of environment and encourage you to join.
